The timing belt for this generation's petrol V6. This is an interference engine: if the belt breaks or jumps teeth the valves and pistons meet, and the job stops being a belt and becomes an engine. That is why it is replaced on a schedule rather than when it fails, and why it is replaced as a kit — the belt, the tensioner, both pulleys and the water pump come out together, so a new belt on tired parts buys nothing and pays for the same access twice.
