Front window drops into the door

A comfort failure rather than a mechanical one, but it is the fault most likely to leave a Montero unlockable in the rain, so it earns a place in the first wave. The regulator and motor are supplied as one assembly for the later trucks, and the fitment note on that part is worth reading before ordering: the assembly the specialist stocks is listed for the last three model years of the generation only, so a truck from earlier in the run needs a different part even though the door looks the same. Before buying anything, separate a dead motor from a broken regulator and both of those from a switch or a loom fault in the door jamb, where the wires flex every time the door opens. The order of those three tests costs nothing and decides whether this is a part or a splice. This entry rests on one specialist supplier's parts listing, so it is filed at the weakest tier.

Fix paths

Replace the regulator and motor as one assembly

$$Difficulty 3/5

Check the model years on the listing against your own truck before ordering — the later assembly does not cover the whole generation. Tape the glass up before undoing anything.

Far cheaper, and the answer more often than people expect on a vehicle of this age. Broken strands inside an intact-looking rubber boot are the classic find.
