The side seal at each end of the rear differential, where the axle shaft passes through the housing — the quantity above is the pair. This is the seal that matters when a rear side shaft has been creeping outward: the shaft moving takes the seal's sealing lip with it, and gear oil follows. Read the catalogue page before ordering, because the differentials use four different seals in total — front side, front pinion, rear side, rear pinion — each with its own Mitsubishi number, and only this one has a page here so far. Ordering "a differential seal" without saying which will get you the wrong one three times out of four. The number, the fitment and the count come from the Montero specialist's own catalogue page, cited below — a parts catalogue is good evidence for what a part number is and what it fits, and it is not factory literature, so read every figure on this page as the catalogue's claim rather than as a service-manual specification.
