The single serpentine belt that drives everything on the front of the engine off the crankshaft — alternator, water-pump drive, power steering and air conditioning. When it glazes, cracks or frays it announces itself with a squeal on a cold start or under load, and if it lets go you lose charging, power steering and cooling drive at once, so it is not a part to run to failure. It comes off with the timing cover during a belt service, so replace it then rather than paying for the access twice. The number on this page is the current Mitsubishi one; the catalogue also lists older numbers it replaces, and the parts counter can resolve any of them. The number and the fitment come from a Montero specialist's catalogue and an independent parts catalogue, cited below — good evidence for what a part number is and what it fits, and not factory literature, so read every figure on this page as the catalogue's claim rather than as a service-manual specification.

| Bando | 7PK2415 | Same maker as the OEM part | The specialist page states that Bando makes the original drive belt for the Gen 3 Montero and sells it under its own label as size 7PK2415 — a seven-rib belt in the length this engine takes. Filed as OEM supplier because it is the same belt in Bando's own box; ask the counter for it by that size if the Mitsubishi number is slow to source. |
